12 Superhero Movie Romances That Actually Didn't Suck
4. Tony Stark & Pepper Potts (Iron Man)
On paper the relationship between Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) actually seems pretty familiar and generic, but thanks to its natural rhythm and strong chemistry between Downey and Paltrow, it's an easy sell.
All the way from the jump, their love-in has felt completely organic and not remotely forced, perhaps in part because Pepper has always been a fairly mild presence in these movies (with the exception of Iron Man 3).
But Pepper's self-sufficiency is a fine compliment to Stark's more reckless abandon, and it's safe to say that she's helped tease out his greater sense of humanity over the course of the MCU.
Granted, the on-off state of their relationship in recent times has been a tad strange - especially with their break-up before Captain America: Civil War and Pepper's surprise re-appearance in Spider-Man: Homecoming - but if there's any comic book couple deserving the whole marriage and kids deal, it's surely them.
