12 Superhero Movie Romances That Actually Didn't Suck

But the #1 spot has to go to the quintessential superhero romance that defined them all, because it remains the best there ever has been.

Despite being over 40 years old, Superman: The Movie is a heart-swellingly charming movie throughout, and arguably no stronger than in its depiction of the relationship between Clark Kent/Superman (Christopher Reeve) and Lois Lane (Margot Kidder).

Reeve's impeccable earnestness is a perfect compliment to Kidder's fierce cattiness, making them a terrifically entertaining pair and one whose feelings for one another palpably grow over the course of the film.

This is of course complicated by Lois being unaware that Clark and Supes are the same person, caused by Clark's very deliberate efforts to throw Lois off the scent.

But watching their love evolve through even the lesser Superman movies is pretty damn delightful. When Lois (temporarily) died in the original movie, we all felt the rage.

Younger viewers might see it as corny nowadays, but it's the blueprint by which all subsequent superhero relationships are rightly measured.
