12 Things You Didn't Know About December's Biggest Movies
4. Tim Burton Hasn't Worked With A Single Big Eyes Actor Before
Tim Burton has a habit of, like most directors, re-teaming with actors he shares an artistic rapport with, but even so, the number of collaborations he's made with Johnny Depp and especially wife Helena Bonham Carter over the years is pretty close to ridiculous, to the point that it's just too obvious and predictable these days. What a surprise it is, then, that his upcoming period drama Big Eyes is the director's first film since 1988's Beetlejuice to feature not a single cast member who the director has worked with before, and it's also Burton's first live-action movie that doesn't feature either Depp or Carter since Mars Attacks! in 1996. Fans of Burton's hoping that this might signal a little creative rejuvenation in the director's output should rest easy, because Big Eyes is racking up mostly positive reviews so far, and is earning favourable comparisons to Burton's masterful Ed Wood. Above all else, hopefully it will prove that Burton has plenty to offer beyond using Depp and Carter's fanciful shtick as a pair of crutches.
