12 Things You Learn Rewatching Tomorrow Never Dies

9. It's A Surprisingly Timely Film

At the time of its release, Tomorrow Never Dies felt current for a somewhat different reason: Elliot Carver was a thinly-veiled jab at real-life megalomaniacal media mogul Rupert Murdoch, but two decades later, the movie's lampooning of media conglomerates takes on a wholly new - and terrifying - meaning.

Carver's plan to manipulate world events to benefit his news network feels unmistakably reflective of the current climate of "fake news", where misinformation presented in bad faith is more pervasive than ever.

Honestly, if Carver were a modern-day Bond baddie, his plan would probably proceed with even greater and more insidious ease. And though nobody could've exactly anticipated the muddied waters of contemporary "journalism", it does add a surprise layer of topical relevance to the film nowadays.
