12 Times Actors Were Cheated Out Of An Oscar

3. 2010 - James Franco, 127 Hours

Who Actually Won? Colin Firth for The King's Speech Look, while it's great that Colin Firth can pretend to have a stutter and talk in the same posh voice he always does, it doesn't mean that he deserves a Best Actor award for it. The bucket of Oscar chum once again gets thrown into Academy waters and the voters just eat it up. Franco's performance as trapped adventurer Aaron Ralston is much more impressive, showing a lot more range for the young actor than Firth is given in The King's Speech - the latter performance amounting to one outburst where the titular King says a naughty word a lot. That's about as much emotion as you get. With 127 Hours, Ralston's struggle for survival has Franco running the gamut of emotions, and he conquers them all.
