Who Actually Won? Eddie Redmayne for The Theory Of Everything Eddie Redmayne's performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything is fantastic, there's no doubt about that. Unfortunately, his Best Actor win reeks of the Academy's tendency to dole out awards to people who suffer from great maladies. They become blind to the other amazing performances in any given year as soon as someone playing a disability turns up on screen; a cynical outlook, to be sure, yet an actor shouldn't be rewarded because they chose to play someone who's afflicted in such a way. Keaton's role as Riggan Thomson brought out an incredibly raw, honest performance for the actor who, much like Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler, saw enough of himself in the part to really get under the skin of the character. A has-been actor known for his role as a superhero, desperate to be taken seriously? Sure, it's not a stretch for Keaton, but the way he immerses himself into the role makes it obvious that he's the only man for the job. When that happens, you know it's awards-worthy. Who else do you think was screwed out of an Oscar they deserved? Share your picks and reactions below in the comments thread.
