Marie, a track star with European Championship ambitions comes down with a severe immune disorder. With her dreams sabotaged and her life suddenly in disarray, she decides to move in with her charming new boyfriend, Bobby.

Bobby lives in a lush apartment in the Left Bank area of Antwerp. The building proves to have a complicated and disturbing history with Marie growing obsessed with a still-missing former tenant.

With a suitably spooky, often quiet first half, the film builds superbly to its wild, twist and turn filled finale. Lead actors Eline Kuppens and Matthias Schoenaerts shine also, bringing plenty of energy to the murky script. Often disorienting and disturbing thanks to its off beat dream sequences, the film is reminiscent of David Lynch’s surrealist fare throughout. The delirious style of these scenes blend nicely with the increasingly otherworldly storyline.

Well received in Belgium at the time of its release, debut director Pieter van Hees does a great job of blending several sinister film styles together to bring life to his vision. Sadly, despite this incredibly promising start, van Hees has done little since.

John Cunningham hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
