12 Upcoming Comic Book Movie Villains We Can’t Wait To See

11. Apocalypse - X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)

What€™s more evil than a name which implies the end of all existence? Apocalypse is one of the X-Men€™s fiercest enemies, a mutant who has a complete mastery of every molecule in his body and as such can change his form at will. Also he€™s immortal. That€™s a bit of an issue for the heroes fighting him as it quickly becomes a Sisyphean task to repeatedly punch, slash and blast someone who can shrug it all off like it€™s nothing. To make matters interesting, En Sabah Nur, as he was christened by whoever managed to give birth to a 7ft walking tank, is not always totally evil and sometimes appears as a Messianic-figure. This portrayal seems to have been confirmed for the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse movie as Oscar Isaac, who is cast as the super-being, called Apocalypse€™s goals "Biblical". There is an intriguing aspect of a strict parent in the character who, while posturing to take over the world, wants to make it a better, stronger place for the humans and mutants who live there. With so much conflict on earth both on and off the pages of Marvel€™s comics, there€™s a certain draw to a character who believes that they have a solution. It may be that they€™re going about it the wrong way but their motivations certainly make them more compelling than, say, the villains who rob banks or commit murder for the hell of it. X-Men has always been deeply rooted in morality issues and Apocalypse is the perfect antagonist to ensure a complex, entertaining adaptation in 2016.
