12 Worst Casting Decisions In Marvel Movies

9. Natalie Portman - Jane Foster

Natalie Portman has played a teenaged killer, a stripper, a compulsive liar with epilepsy, and a ballet dancer with serious mental issues, so taking on the role of an intelligent scientist should've been a walk in the park. But whatever the reason, Portman's take on Jane Foster was surprisingly tame and unremarkable. Everything starts off well enough when Foster is introduced mid-experiment to audiences. However, when Thor lands on Earth and decides to wander around the place shirtless, Portman takes Foster from being a smart and independent woman to a lovesick teenager making googly eyes at the new handsome stranger. You can literally track the de-evolution of Jane's character when Portman goes from saying stuff like "They stole my life's work, so I don't have much to lose" in the first Thor to being incredibly annoying and saying stuff like "I was right here where you left me. I was waiting, and then I was crying, and then I went looking for you' in the second Thor. Portman seems like a very intelligent woman who carries an air of respectability, so seeing her start as strong and smart character before descending into generic girlfriend territory is tough to watch. After seeing what she can do in V For Vendetta, it's quite disappointing to see Portman waste her time in a sub-par film and giving out a generic performance that basically boils down to 'he's hot so I'm going to help him'.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back.
