12 Years A Slave: 12 Oscars It Could Snatch Up

11. Best Original Score - Hans Zimmer

Hans Zimmer Hans Zimmer has admittedly been pumping out the same old tired routine lately of overly loud and distracting beats to emphasize the importance of superheroes or various other romanticized fictional characters fighting for humanity. It€™s something that just blatantly shows lately whether you€™re watching Man of Steel or The Dark Knight Rises. Maybe he€™s bored of that formulaic routine too. Nevertheless, it€™s clear he really enjoyed working on 12 Years A Slave and dug deep into the subject material actually putting forth effort in this score. It€™s obvious that this movie is fairly depressing and a lot of those emotional beats are heightened by a powerful score. There€™s also a scene standing out in my mind where Hans gets really creative and seemingly distorts his score to induce a sense of nauseam into the viewer, all coming appropriately during one of the most disturbing scenes of the film.
