If you€™re unaware, 12 Years A Slave is actually based on the extraordinary true story of Solomon Northup who was indeed a free man captured and wrongfully sold into slavery. These memoirs were transcribed to the silver screen by John Ridley whom truthfully isn€™t known for anything substantial outside of last year€™s disappointing film Red Tails. Working with Steve McQueen however has clearly been a positive considering the script is as equally harsh, direct, and brutal as the direction of the film. What€™s important though is that both the screenplay and story complement each other resulting in a riveting experience that€™s absolutely unforgettable.
