12 Years A Slave: 12 Oscars It Could Snatch Up

4. Best Cinematography - Sean Bobbitt

12 Years A Slave Benedict Cumberbatch 600 Obviously with Gravity already acclaimed and revolutionary this award might be a long shot to actually win but a nomination is almost certain, if only for one scene that is now forever etched into my memory. There are some spoilers below but it€™s nothing too drastic. At one point Solomon is hung from a tree but in a position where his feet are still lightly periodically brushing up against the surface. This was already one of the most difficult visuals to actually process and watch but the uneasiness is taken up even further when as Solomon suffers, the camera pans out as slaves enter the screen and begin going about their daily routines. I€™m positive that deep down the other slaves are horrified too but there€™s nothing to do. We€™re left watching a man choke helplessly. This scene lasts for almost an entire minute.
