13 Actors Almost Killed While Making Movies
3. Ed Harris - The Abyss
Almost a decade before he tortured Kate Winslet, James Cameron left Ed Harris a dejected, sobbing wreck on the set of his sci-fi classic The Abyss.
While filming a sequence in which Harris had to hold his breath underwater, a series of crew miscommunications meant that Harris wasn't given oxygen when he asked for it, very nearly causing him to drown.
Cameron reportedly continued filming while the incident took place, prompting a justifiably incensed Harris to punch him in the face. Harris apparently broke down crying while driving home from the set that night.
To this day, Harris refuses to talk about the film, having clearly been traumatised by the experience, not unlike his similarly infuriated co-star Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.
