13 Awesome 2015 Movies That Deserve Best Picture (But Won't Get Nominated)

11. The End Of The Tour

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 91% (8.1/10) Why It Deserves Best Picture: James Ponsoldt (Smashed, The Spectacular Now) delivers another stellar drama which proves beyond all doubt the untapped, mighty acting prowess of Jason Segel, who plays late author David Foster Wallace in what is essentially a road movie. As Wallace gets to know journalist David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg), the audience is left to soak in their fascinating dialogues, with Wallace elucidating his singular worldview while wrestling with the awkwardness of his latest book's overnight success. It doesn't reach to be overly profound nor is it particularly fussy stylistically, but as a warts-and-all look at a man whose life was cut short too soon, and as a startling riff on the human condition, The End of the Tour finds plenty of poignant meaning for audiences to meditate on. Without question, Segel gives an Oscar-worthy performance here. Why It Won't Get Nominated: Again, the confined, intimate nature of the story doesn't lend itself well to the typical "prestige" films which win Best Picture. Brilliant though it is, the fact that it's not "about" a tangible, marketable issue will probably deny many from voting for it.
