7. Logan Lucky

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 93% (7.5/10)

Why It Deserves Best Picture: Steven Soderbergh's return from "retirement" is another pin-sharp winner for the filmmaker, a riotously entertaining, whip-smart heist caper that stands as one of the funniest and best-acted films of the year.

Eschewing the hillbilly cliches many surely expected and making full-bodied characters out of the Logan family, Logan Lucky elevates silly-smart to an art form.

Why It Won't Get Nominated: For one, it did underwhelming business at the box office, and some voters might feel that it's too inconsequential for Best Picture. This coming from the group of people who once nominated Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close for the award, of course.
