4. Lost In Translation...Because Sofia Coppola Quit Acting After The Godfather Part III
The Awesome Movie: Though perhaps not to more mainstream tastes, Lost in Translation completely changed Sofia Coppola's career, earning her an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay as well as two further nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. Bill Murray has arguably never been better as the fading movie star at the center, and a young Scarlett Johansson cemented her rise to the A-list with a fine performance. How It Got Made: Alright, so 1990's The Godfather Part III is probably the best film on the "awful" part of this list, but despite turning a decent profit, it's wretched compared to the first two movies and pretty much ends the series on a whimper. One of the major complaints was Sofia Coppola's performance, widely regarded as a casting choice fueled by nepotism considering she couldn't act worth a damn. Coppola won the Worst Supporting Actress Razzie Award which pretty much killed her acting career on the spot. She then turned her attention to directing instead, which would eventually lead to her immense success with Lost in Translation. Without that awful Godfather performance, though, there would likely be no such film, because if she was a good actress, she likely would've stuck to that...
