13 Awesome Summer Movies You Probably Missed

The Plot: It's 1985, and young Irish lad Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) is enrolled in a new school, where he decides to form a band in order to put his family troubles behind him and impress the beautiful Raphina (Lucy Boynton).

Why It's Awesome: John Carney (Once) returns with another unforgettable musical drama that, while hardly demonstrating much ambition on Carney's part given his prior success, nevertheless serves up terrific music, strong performances and an emotionally resonant narrative.

The ending could be tighter and it's so cutesy it won't be for all tastes, but if you're craving an uplifting musical with superb songs, then this is unmissable. If it doesn't score at least one Best Original Song Oscar nomination next year, something's gone horribly wrong.
