12. Will Red Skull Return?

Whether Hugo Weaving likes it or not, the resolution of Red Skull's fate at the end of Captain America: The First Avenger is very much left open to interpretation. He's not dead; he has merely been sucked into the Tesseract by its internal Infinity Stone (just as happened to the "victims" of the comic book Infinity Gems) and he is presumably just floating around some unknown space firing out venomous German expletives.

There has already been some suggestion that he would be revived (particularly in the lead up to Civil War), but ultimately Marvel are yet to play their hand on that front. It could be that they want to reserve him for a fourth Captain America film, to make a major ceremony out of the return, or it could simply be that they're just not interested in bringing him back at all.

Perhaps the most intriguing theory, though, suggests that Red Skull will return when someone either works out how to wield the Stones to the fullest of their power, or destroys them, unwitting unleashing the victims within. And that would offer the tantalising suggestion that Red Skull could make an appearance in Infinity War.
