13 Hyped Movie Roles That Were Total Cop-Outs

1. Bruce Banner (Eric Bana) - Hulk

Ang Lee's 2003 Hulk is one of the most divisive superhero movies of all time: some laud it as a subversive stylistic exercise while others dismiss it as an overlong, messy film that's aged horribly.

But most will agree that Eric Bana was an intriguing choice to play Bruce Banner, albeit one which ultimately landed with a bit of a shoulder shrug.

Bana's performance focused on internalised subtleties that weren't at all complimented by Lee's more outlandish aesthetic and storytelling choices.

Compared to both Edward Norton and Mark Ruffalo's subsequent portrayals, Bana's Banner (sorry) come off a rather flat and, as much as one hates to say it, a bit boring.

Following the lead of Bill Bixby's Banner from The Incredible Hulk TV series would've been a thankless task for anyone, but it's a shame that a collaboration of such talented artists didn't produce more interesting results.

Which of these hyped-up movie roles disappointed you the most? Got any others to add? Shout them out in the comments!
