At this point, this potential idea is nothing more than a fan theory - but it's a pretty damn exciting one that Marvel Studios would do well to take notice of and take in to serious consideration. Tony Stark is set to appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron - with Ultron being a supposed fail safe against emerging global threats that Stark himself created. So what if he created Vision as a fail safe against his own death? The Vision character is going to feature the artificial intelligence of JARVIS just like Tony Starks Iron Man armours and we already know that human souls/minds can be transferred in to technology in the MCU (see Arnim Zola for details), so what if Vision was created as a potential source for Tony Starks own life essence in the event of his body being destroyed? We know that Stark is not going to die in Age of Ultron - as he is scheduled to appear in Captain America 3 a year later - so Vision will be a character unto himself for that movie, but imagine if Stark's body is destroyed in a later movie and a fail safe is activated that allows the android body to house Tonys soul and still have the accompanying JARVIS as an A.I. with JARVIS being Tonys co-pilot even after his death in an eternal show of loyalty. It would allow Downey, Jr. to continue in the MCU in a voice-only role, even after Iron Man had gone - giving him less of a commitment, but still keeping him in touch with the franchise and its fans.
