13 Massive Movie Predictions For The Rest Of 2018

4. China Saves The Meg From Flopping At The Box Office

One of the more interesting - and frankly, insane - box office stories this year is the Jason Statham-starring shark movie The Meg, which has a ludicrous $150 million price tag, and will therefore need to gross in excess of $300 million to be truly profitable.

Though it's not terribly likely the movie is particularly successful domestically, it's likely going to be the latest in a long line of expensive tentpole movies that ends up bailed out by China.

After all, the film is a Chinese co-production and co-stars Li Bingbing, while Jason Statham has considerable popularity with Chinese audiences.

It won't be a stonking runaway hit, but The Meg could easily gross $100+ million in China alone, ensuring it at least makes enough to be considered a modest success.
