As already mentioned, this year's Christmas slate of movie releases might be one of the busiest and most competitive in recent memory, what with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Aquaman, Bumblebee and Mortal Engines all competing for box office gravy.

However, they're all going to end up thoroughly schooled by Mary Poppins Returns, which regardless of how well it reviews, is sure to be the tentpole breakout hit of the holiday period.

Combine the near-universal love for the character in the west with the clearly nostalgic tone of this new movie and you've got the recipe for another billion-dollar smash for Disney.

Granted, Mary Poppins' lack of appeal in Asian markets will make its entry to the billion-dollar club much tougher, but it otherwise has basically everything going for it.

Even if it falls shy of a bill, though, there's no way any of these other movies get within spitting distance of it.
