13 Movie Protagonists You're Desperate To See Lose

9. Peter Rabbit - Peter Rabbit

Unlike every other character on this list, this guy actually got redeemed. In 2021's surprisingly good sequel, Peter Rabbit: The Runaway, Peter Rabbit (James Corden) was a far, far nicer character in every sense and in that film, he was easy to root for.  Nevertheless, in the original, he was completely hateful and no, that's not just because he's played by James Corden (although that definitely didn't help).

This Peter Rabbit is arrogant, smug, spiteful and a genuine psychopath. When his human nemesis Farmer McGregor (Sam Neill) has a heart attack in front of him he starts celebrating and spends the rest of the film boasting that he's killed someone. He also spends the rest of the film tormenting and bullying Thomas McGregor (Domhnall Gleeson), the nephew of the deceased farmer. At one point he pelts Thomas with blackberries, which he knows Thomas is allergic to.

Thomas' only crime was trying to keep the rabbits out so that they wouldn't destroy the garden of the estate he's trying to sell, which is hardly unreasonable. He also comes off as pretty anxious and put-upon throughout the film, so he is a character that's easy to sympathize with. In contrast, the so-called hero quite frankly deserved to be turned into a rabbit pie.

Beatrix Potter would be mortified.
