13 Movie Villains You Didn't Know Almost Played The Hero

2. Tom Hiddleston Was Almost Thor Before He Was Loki

As we've discussed recently, the cast of the Avengers film could well have been very different if some of the names attached or linked to the key roles in the audition process had ended up in the final films. For a start we could at one point have had a Steve Buscemi Hulk, Nic Cage as Iron Man and Arnold Schwarzenegger as Captain America.

Thankfully those never came off, but one actor who unsuccessfully auditioned for one of the Avengers roles thankfully did end up in the movie, but not as part of the good guy ensemble. Though he is one of the MCU's most enduring villains so far, Tom Hiddleston might not have even played Loki had Mrs Hemsworth not given birth to two sons.

Hiddleston screen-tested for the central role in Thor, even sporting long blonde locks for the occasion, but was ultimately over-looked in favour of Chris Hemsworth, who pipped his brother to the post in the final decision. But the British actor obviously showed enough to impress Kenneth Branagh, who cast him as Loki, a fundamental decision that has underpinned some of the MCU's most successful moments so far.
