13 Movies That Shocked At The Box Office In 2018

Box Office: $100.5 million

A Neil Armstrong biopic starring Ryan Gosling and Claire Foy that's directed by Damien Chazelle (La La Land)?

This thing had box office dynamite written all over it, yet despite some of the year's best reviews, First Man didn't even double its sensibly modest $59 million budget.

Several factors have been highlighted for the movie's colossal under-performance: its unpatriotic approach to the Moon landing with Chazelle opting not to show the American flag being planted, its beefy 141-minute runtime and also its more dramatic, less action-packed approach to the focal event.

It's a damn shame for a movie that has so much artistry packed into it, and one that so few people evidently got to see in the best conditions possible: on the big screen.
