Shrek 2 was an excellent sequel to the inventive original, and much of the charm stemmed from how readily it referenced classic movies, with one of the more memorable parodies involving Pinocchio being lowered into a well to try and save Shrek (Mike Myers), Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas). Shrek tells Pinocchio to tell a lie in order for his nose to grow, and he ends up proclaiming, "I'm wearing ladies underwear." However, his nose refuses to grow, and it's only when he protests that he's not wearing ladies' underwear that his nose in fact begins to grow. As the group grows inquisitive about Pinocchio's underwear, we cut to a shot of the Gingerbread Man pulling out Pinocchio's thong and shouting, "It's a thong!" Though the initial joke about Pinocchio wearing ladies' underwear is pretty funny, the joke is carried on past the point where it's still amusing, and the inclusion of the image of the thong seems a bit needless for a film aimed at children, while the Gingerbread Man's line cements the awkwardness of the whole exchange.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
