13 Things Hollywood Always Gets Wrong About Film Fans

9. Every Film Does Not Deserve A Sequel

Just because you suckered audiences into the theatre once - perhaps with a smart advertising campaign, or some shiny merchanside - does not immediately mean they are always dumb enough to fall for it again. Okay, maybe sometimes, but not always, and we always feel bad about it after. Those same audiences really, truly, positively, most definitely do NOT need a sequel to every single semi-successful film you guys crank out. Trust us, The Smurfs was a fluke, and as you found out, you didn't need a part 2. Percy Jackson just didn't scream 'SEQUEL!' either, yet you still pumped one out there just to see how few people would really show interest. Regardless of the indicators for failure, Hollywood continues to make a sequel to just about anything, including, for some reason, movies that flopped. Why would you think that something that has already failed once, either with the audience or in raw dollars, is going to succeed if you do it again? Ghost Rider anyone? It is perfectly OK to make a film and let it stand on its own, and it is also OK to admit defeat that your potential franchise starter is just not working and maybe it is time to go back to the drawing board. We hear there are tons of movies not yet remade, maybe you should start there.
