13 Things Hollywood Always Gets Wrong About Film Fans

8. Audiences Will Pay To See Rated R Movies

When did this happen? Watering down movies across the board just to make a few more bucks? And when did Hollywood begin believing that audiences would not pay for a rated R film? These PG-13 'safe' films are almost a complete hindrance to film itself. Certain genres absolutely demand it,, horror for instance. We want to be scared, terrified, mentally exhausted. Not watch as some CW clone clutches his neatly shaven face in some horrific reaction shot to something we did not find frightening in the first place. Not limited strictly to horror, the PG-13 mentality continues to water down films that could benefit from a broader and more open approach to creating films. There are numerous examples of successful R-rated films and even franchises, that quickly negate this knee-jerk reaction that Hollywood seems to have. By the repeated dumbing down of your films for the greatest possible return, Hollywood continues to sacrifice art for commerce...while completely ignoring the facts before them that this line of thinking is, quite simply, wrong.
