Marvel Studios

After Thor declares war against the Frost Giants without his father’s consent, he is banished from his home of Asgard and sent to Earth.

However, Thor only attacked the Frost Giants because he was goaded by his manipulative stepbrother, Loki. Now that Thor is out of the way, Loki is the only successor for the throne of Asgard.

But Loki wants to prove his worth to his father, so he declares war on the Frost Giants. So… Loki thinks he will make Odin proud by carrying out the same action as Thor which is what made his father banish him from Asgard. If Loki did nothing, he would still be the successor of Asgard.
