13 Things You Learn Rewatching Star Wars: A New Hope

6. The Jump To Hyperspace Is Thrilling

It€™s one of the simplest effects in all of Star Wars: aboard the legendary Millennium Falcon - which can €œdo the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs€, for one of A New Hope€™s most maligned lines - for the first time in the film, Han, Chewbacca, Luke, Obi-Wan, R2, and C-3PO look to escape Mos Eisley and the Empire. The only way they can do so is to make the jump to hyperspace. That they do, and the stars outside the cockpit window turn into streaks of light as the Falcon and its crew blast into light-speed. It€™s a quick, clean moment, all over in a matter of seconds, but the effect is thrilling, and as the Falcon is launched from the foreground to the background, we€™re left fully aware of the ship€™s deceptive powers. The moment also gives us one of the film€™s best lines, unsurprisingly delivered by Harrison Ford in the cocky first knockings of his tenure as Han Solo: €œTravelling through hyperspace ain€™t like dusting crops, boy€.
