10. Where Is Jane? - Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation

The Question: After being a central figure in the fourth movie, Ghost Protocol, IMF agent Jane Carter is conspicuously absent from Rogue Nation. She is offered a new assignment at the end of Ghost Protocol, but isn't even mentioned in the fifth film, much to the disappointment of series fans considering how fantastic she was in it. The Likely Answer: The practical reason for Paula Patton not reprising her role was simply the classic "scheduling conflicts" excuse, so canonically, it's almost certainly going to be something along the lines of "she was away on a mission", though considering that Rogue Nation's best asset, the fantastic Rebecca Ferguson, has already been confirmed to return for M:I6, the feeling may be that Patton's presence won't be needed. Because two smart, resourceful women in a single M:I film is at least one too many, apparently (going by the series' history, anyway). Still, she probably won't get an off-screen death or anything, in case the filmmakers opt to bring her back some time down the line.
