The Actor: Kirsten Dunst has balanced herself perfectly in mainstream and art-house fare over the years, be it playing Mary-Jane in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, or tackling the likes of Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette and Lars von Trier's Melancholia. She's never been Oscar nominated, though, settling for a Golden Globe nod for her work as a youngster in Interview with the Vampire. The Role: Dunst plays an unspecified female lead in Jeff Nichols' sci-fi chase drama, possibly taking the part of Michael Shannon's wife, whose son is endowed with special powers of some kind. Why They Might Win: Nichols is a fantastic actor's director, and while little is known about Dunst's role, perhaps the director's first studio production might be enough for Academy voters to finally start paying attention to the fine work he and his performers are doing. Who do you think might be an Oscar winner this time next year? Shout it out in the comments!
