13 Upcoming Movies That Will Probably Get Cancelled
9. Most Of The Dark Universe Movies
The Hype: Beginning with this past summer's The Mummy, Universal is attempting to build a cinematic universe full of their classic stable of monsters, titled the Dark Universe. Proposed films include The Invisible Man (starring Johnny Depp), Frankenstein (Javier Bardem), Van Helsing and Dracula.
Why It Won't Happen: For starters, The Mummy didn't exactly get the prospective franchise off to a stellar start, suffering through brutal reviews and an underwhelming box office that was effectively bailed out by the Chinese market.
Yes, the planned February 2019 Bride of Frankenstein film will probably get made and possibly one or two others, but when the combined box office receipts form a disappointing tally, Universal will quietly pull the plug.
Why It Still Could: One bad movie doesn't necessarily doom an entire franchise, and if Universal really takes note of the criticisms of The Mummy, they could course-correct the series from this point, especially with the insane talents they're already attracting to the universe.
