Why It Could Beat Civil War: Because who didn't love the first Guardians of the Galaxy? It was irreverent, hilarious, edgy, surprisingly sweet and a total breath of fresh air compared to pretty much everything else in the genre.
If many will argue that the original Guardians was better than Civil War, then why can't Guardians Vol. 2 be one of the rare sequels to top its predecessor?
Why It Might Not: We can't underestimate the original's novelty factor, and how that freshness might feel a little diluted this time around, even if the charm is still liable to be there.
Considering that the first film had a fairly ropey plot and terrible villain, it basically won out because of its incredible personality, but if Vol. 2 makes similarly little effort with these things (areas where Civil War strongly succeeded), audiences are likely to be less forgiving.
