13 Upcoming Superhero Movies That Could Beat Civil War
12. Thor: Ragnarok
Why It Could Beat Civil War: Because this is by far the most promising Thor movie to date: it's being directed by the terrific Taika Waititi (whereas' The Russos' use of shaky cam and snippy editing in Civil War was a tad unpleasant), it sees Hulk and Thor teaming up, it's also got Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett in it, and the MCU's best villain, Loki, will also show up.
This could basically be one of the most fun MCU movies yet, given Thor and Hulk's rather tepid friendship, and the potential for it to go spectacularly awry. Plus, 80-90% of the movie is apparently set off-Earth, so it'll serve up a completely different experience, and there's no Jane Foster or Darcy this time. Yay!
Why It Might Not: At the end of the day, Thor's movies are generally regarded as a lesser franchise of the MCU for a reason: Thor as a character has just never quite lived up to his Shakespearean potential, and again, nailing the right mix of buddy comedy and strong dramatic stakes will be a huge struggle.
