14 Awesome 2015 Movies Everyone Thought Would Suck

5. Wild Card

Why It Should Have Sucked: A remake of a critically-panned box office bomb nobody asked for starring Jason Statham? Not sure there was much need for this one, and honestly, did it ever seem like it was going to be much more than your usual Statham kill-a-thon? And it probably tones down the more intricate, pulpy nature of William Goldman's novel too while wasting a great cast... Why It Was Awesome: Far from the generic actioner it was sold as, Wild Card is a criminally underrated thriller which sees Statham being given a rare chance to actually act, and though the lack of set-pieces may disappoint some, the action that is there is gorgeously choreographed and absurdly entertaining. Stanley Tucci, Michael Angarano, Anne Heche, Hope Davis and Jason Alexander all show up to lend Statham solid support, and though critically dismissed and financially unsuccessful, Wild Card is a refreshingly left-field choice for the no-nonsense action star.
