14 Awesome Movies To Watch This Summer (Which Aren't Blockbusters)

4. Under The Silver Lake

Andrew Garfield 99 Homes
Broad Green Productions

Release Date: June 22

The Plot: An aimless young man (Andrew Garfield) investigates the disappearance of his neighbour Sarah (Riley Keough) in East Los Angeles, uncovering a conspiracy that leaves him hopelessly in over his head.

Why It's Going To Be Awesome: Releasing the same day as First Reformed, the latest movie from David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) sees the director leaping genres from horror to neo-noir, and though the film remains sight unseen (but is probably premiering at Cannes), it's hard not to be hype given the success of his prior effort.

Mitchell will reunite with It Follows' cinematographer Mike Gioulakis and composer Disasterpeace, which should make this another stylistically audacious, intoxicatingly atmospheric romp, while showcasing the filmmaker's flair in another genre.
