14 Deeply Irresponsible Messages You Didn't Notice In Love Actually

6. Airport Arrivals Lounges Are Magical Places

Airport Curtis' sacharine assertion that Arrival Lounges allow witnesses to experience the full gamut of emotions is all well and good, but it ignores the fact that the reality is cold, and horribly lit, and everyone walks out like they've just been folded up uncomfortably and put through a spin dry. There are outpourings of emotion, but that's usually rage, boredom and exhaustion rather than the bewildering tangle of love we see in Love Actually.

5. Manipulation Trumps Actual Writing

Total Agony Something more technically minded here €“ despite the success of the ensemble, the fact that we can love so many characters without so much as even the slightest intelligent development says a lot the hurdles that anyone who really loves the film actually have to get over. Characters and whole relationships are left painfully underdeveloped (and criminally the best character thread of all was cut entirely) and Curtis instead goes for manipulation and outright silliness (the whole Rowan Atksinson thing, which was originally envisaged as him being a special Christmas Angel) to trick his audience into caring. It works yes, but the film is in no way well written.

4. Being Sexually Harrassed Is Grounds For Dismissal/Jealousy

Harrassment Going back to Hugh Grant's reaction to President Billy Bob Thornton's wandering hands, is it really a good message to tell the next generation of world and business leaders that anyone found getting sexually harassed should in no way be helped or counselled, and should be immediately removed from their position in the company. HR must have had a field-day with that particularly side-promotion.
