14 Directors Who Desperately Need A Hit Movie

Aussie filmmaker Alex Proyas rose to prominence in the mid-to-late 90s with stylish, cult classic thrillers The Crow and Dark City, and enjoyed success with box office hits i, Robot and Knowing in the 2000s, but his career was thoroughly derailed by one recent big-budget, high-profile bust.

Last year's fantasy epic Gods of Egypt only barely made its $140 million budget back and was a total critical failure, scoring numerous Razzie nominations including Worst Picture and Worst Director for Proyas.

Somewhat understandably, word has been deathly quiet on any of the director's future plans ever since.

Will It Happen?: Proyas clearly needs to go back to making a smaller movie on the scale of Dark City, but at least it's clear to anyone with a functioning pair of eyeballs that Gods of Egypt was doomed in the hands of any director, so hopefully Hollywood won't judge him too harshly.

A comeback could definitely happen, but he should probably try and get the ball rolling sooner rather than later to avoid the movie's stink haunting him for too long.
