14 Isolation Films You Shouldn't Watch Alone

3. Buried (2010)

There aren't many films in the annals of cinema history that can match spending 95 minutes alone in a coffin with Ryan Reynolds, a scenario which sets Buried apart in the isolation stakes. For all his detractors Reynolds gives a thoroughly engaging performance as Paul Conroy, a civilian truck driver working in Iraq who finds himself buried alive in a coffin with only a mobile phone, lighter , flask, torch, knife, glowsticks and a pen. Reynolds is on the top of his game in a film where he must hold the screen alone, supported only by the disembodied telephone voices of the other characters. Though spending the entire shoot lying in a coffin (albeit a three sided one) must've aided the method process somewhat. As can be imagined Buried makes for deeply uncomfortable viewing, it is an ordeal if the truth be told. If you haven't seen it keep that in mind before you choose to watch it, as much as curiosity may inspire you to want lie in the coffin with him it gets pretty damn claustrophobic in there.
