14 Most Terrifying Moments From Alien Films
10. Eggs Or Something (Alien)
It is always a staple of a film that when one of the characters insists on venturing further into the unknown, despite protestations from others, something bad invariably happens. As exemplified here when Kane is eager to explore further the moment he spots a large derelict space craft on the horizon. Go on then, what's the worst that could possibly happen?
Once inside, Kane spots a hole in the floor nearby the iconic Space Jockey, who clearly experienced some sort of chestbursting related issues, and descends into a cavernous area in which a layer of blue-coloured mist emits at the bottom. Incidentally, how awesome is that panoramic camera shot of the impressively monumental cavern and the speck that is John Hurt's character being lowered down.
Now descended, Kane's childlike eagerness of discovering the unknown gets the better of him when he carelessly slips beneath the blue-tinged mist, finding himself amongst "eggs or something". He shines a torch on one of them which reveals movement from within. It then hatches and Kane peers inside inquisitively. Of course at this point you're shouting at him to back away. They never do.
In clear reference to the intimate facehugger attack, Dan O'Bannon, the Alien scriptwriter, said: "I am going to put in every image I can think of to make the men in the audience cross their legs. Homosexual oral rape, birth. The thing lays its eggs down your throat, the whole number.'"
