14 Original Upcoming Movies That Might Save Hollywood

12. Coco

Coco Pixar
Disney Pixar

Release Date: November 22

What It's About: Young Miguel (Anthony Gonzalez) desperately wants to become a musician against his family's wishes, and when he ends up in the Land of the Dead, he teams up with wily trickster Hector (Gael Garcia Bernal) to discover a family secret.

Why It Might Save Hollywood: Though they've had a few missteps in recent years, Pixar's original movies are almost always excellent, and with Toy Story 3's Lee Unkrich serving as director, there's good reason to be excited.

With its clearly stunning visuals and unique engagement with Mexican iconography, Coco should be a true animated original, which in a year that has so far turned out the likes of Smurfs: The Lost Village and The Boss Baby, is very much welcome.

Plus, won't it be great to see an animated movie with a little more ethnic diversity?
