5. The Butterfly Effect

New Line Cinema

Speaking of not being for the faint of heart, may we present The Butterfly Effect. An Ashton Kutcher-starring flick that is more upsetting than most A-list actors (he was one back in 2004) are willing to attach themselves too.

A young man realizes he can travel back to any time in his life when reading from his journal. He tries to right the wrongs of his past but realizes fate is not something to be tampered with. The title comes from the philosophical term that questions “Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas?”

Regret is a basic human emotion, one that we ultimately cannot change. The Butterfly Effect shows that even if we could, we may not want to. Played as a science fiction movie, it is remembered as more horror than anything else.

A necessary watch for cinephiles. Probably only once though.

If you talk in a theatre I'm in, be prepared to get some pretty passive aggressive stares.
