The Plot: August "Auggie" Pullman (Jacob Tremblay) is a young boy born with facial differences who, with the help of his parents (Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson), attempts to fit in at his new school, all while coping with the casual cruelty of youth.
Why You'll Cry: R. J. Palacio's 2012 novel is both a best-seller and multi-award-winner, praised for its compassionate approach to its subject matter, with a moving message about the importance of "inner beauty" and acceptance.
Jacob Tremblay was so fantastic in 2015's Room that he's sure to knock this material totally out of the park, and Julia Roberts also seems perfectly cast as Auggie's mother.
That's without mentioning The Perks of Being A Wallflower director Stephen Chbosky, who is used to delivering emotionally-charged material, and a script co-written by Jack Thorne, who has just been hired to punch up the screenplay for Star Wars: Episode IX, so he's clearly doing something right.
There are a lot of talented big-hitters at work here, so it should be a tear-stained delight.
