15 Action Films From The 1980s You Must Watch
6. Mad Max 2: Road Warrior - 1981
Many modern film audiences will consider Mad Max Fury Road as the best film in the entire series, and for good reason. But before Fury Road breathed new life into the franchise, Mad Max 2 was widely considered not only to be the best of the Mad Max films, but also one of the greatest action films ever made.
After the death of his wife and child in the first film, Max is left with nothing but his dog, sawn-off shotgun and a V-8 Pursuit Special to keep him company as he roams the wastelands of post-apocalyptic Australia in search of fuel.
When he is told of an oil refinery nearby, Max sets off in search of said refinery, only to discover it is under siege by a gang of Marauders and their leader, “Lord Humungus.”
The film is crammed with incredible practical effects that have aged phenomenally well and car chase sequences that earned the Mad Max series its brutal reputation. If you ever find yourself in the mood for an adrenaline fuelled rush of death and destruction, then Mad Max 2 will not disappoint.
