15 Action Films From The 1980s You Must Watch
4. The Terminator - 1984
In case it is not already obvious by the number of times he is on this list, Schwarzenegger was the unrivalled champion of action films throughout the 80s and it was in this James Cameron Classic that he starred in one of his most iconic roles, alongside the equally impressive Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn.
Schwarzenegger is the lethal T-800 sent into the past to eliminate Sarah Conner, who would give birth to the future leader of the human resistance, John Conner. With the help of human resistance fighter Kyle Reese, they must work together to try and take down this seemingly unstoppable killing machine.
The film gives you all the action you could ask for, but it also does a great job at creating tension and a real sense of dread, as the T-800 shoots up a nightclub and steamrolls its way through an entire police department completely unscathed. As this unrelenting machine gets closer and closer to its target, you really begin to doubt whether or not Sarah and Kyle will survive.
Topped off with an incredible soundtrack and timeless practical effects, The Terminator is remembered as one of the best films of both Schwarzenegger’s and Cameron’s respective careers.
