Ender Game's Asa Butterfield made it onto the final four shortlist for the newly rebooted MCU Peter Parker, though was eventually cut as Marvel and Sony decided between Tom Holland, Charlie Plummer, and Matthew Lintz, ultimately opting, of course, for Holland.

Would It Have Worked?: Honestly, it's hard to see this. Butterfield is a decent actor, but he has a bit of a reputation for being "box office poison" considering a number of high-profile films that have flopped with him as the lead, and even his hit films often end up with him being the less-memorable main character (case in point, Hugo and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children).

Still, with the help of the Russo brothers, he probably could've made it work, even if he lacks the confident charisma of Tom Holland.
