3. Taron Egerton
With his only even vaguely recognisable previous role as troubled rookie firefighter 'Asbo' in Sky drama The Smoke, Egerton could prove the actor that really comes from nowhere to be a genuine movie star by the end of 2015. This year, the Welsh actor has significant roles in two prestigious biopics. First up there is Testament Of Youth, the adaptation of Vera Brittain's First World War memoir, where Egerton plays the writer's brother, Edward. Then there will be Legend, Brian Helgeland's gangster flick starring Tom Hardy as both Kray twins. Egerton will appear as Ronnie's homosexual lover, the psychopathic Mad Teddy Smith, in what is likely to be a scene stealing supporting role. While both of these films will undoubtedly boost Egerton's reputation and recognisability, it is neither of them that are likely to make him one of 2015's breakout stars. That honour belongs to Kingsman: The Secret Service, a bonkers, bloody spy pastiche from Kick-Ass creators Mark Millar and Matthew Vaughn. Early buzz around the film is extremely positive and it looks to have the same have-your-cake-and-eat-it genre fun as Kick-Ass, with Egerton's role as chav turned super spy coming in for particular praise.
