15 Actors Who Really Wanted To Be In Comic Book Movies (And Failed)

9. Emily Blunt Was Almost Black Widow

English actress Emily Blunt would have no doubt made a great Black Widow, and she very much wanted that to be the case. She was supposedly as good as confirmed as Marvel€™s new Natasha Romanoff, though Fox intervened at the eleventh hour and stopped her from signing on the dotted line.

The problem was that she was contractually obliged to keep her time free to star alongside Jack Black in the comical flop Gulliver€™s Travels, having already agreed to the role and being too much of a goody-two-shoes (her words) to drop Fox in it. She (along with Tom Cruise) went on to show MCU bosses and fans what they missed out on in last year€™s action smash Edge Of Tomorrow, though Blunt has always remained polite about her Marvel disappointment:

€œ(Gulliver€™s Travels) was just one of the things that was conflicting, so it€™s a shame that the two of them couldn€™t work together. It just got complicated, so I think I had to pull out for my own sanity more than anything!€
