15 Actors Who Trashed Their Own Movies
4. Katherine Heigl - Knocked Up (2007)
It would be fair to say the headliners among Katherine Heigl’s credits tread a similar path along the romantic-comedy route, but the actress took umbrage with the script of Knocked Up, her Hollywood lead role break.
Heigl plays an underprepared and panicky mother-to-be, whose dimwit, stoner baby daddy Seth Rogen is tasked with bringing order to a lifestyle that has none. Director Judd Apatow perhaps paints Rogen as the cool, laid-back father and Heigl as a crotchety, pent-up nag, Alisson Scott.
Or so said Heigl at least, as she told Vanity Fair in 2008:
“It was a little sexist. It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys. It exaggerated the characters, and I had a hard time with it, on some days. I’m playing such a bitch; why is she being such a killjoy? Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time it was an amazing experience, but it was hard for me to love the movie.”
Apatow has defended his story as an “honest” reflection, but Heigl clearly would have taken a different route with the character of Alisson, maybe one with fewer hormonal outbursts.
